Runners in Glasgow: Common Foot Injuries We Treat All the Time

November 08, 20253 min read

Running in Glasgow is amazing—you’ve got the parks, river paths, and even the odd hill if you're feeling brave. But if you're a runner, you’ve probably had that moment where something in your foot just doesn’t feel right. One run it's fine, the next you’re limping to the car.

At The Springfield Clinic, we see this all the time.

Why Does Running Mess With Your Feet?

Running is tough on the feet—especially when you’re clocking in regular miles. Your feet hit the ground thousands of times on a single run. If something’s a bit off with your form, shoes, or even just how your foot is shaped, injuries can sneak in.

And here in Glasgow? Rain-soaked pavements, uneven kerbs, and chilled morning jogs don’t exactly help.

Let’s talk about the injuries we treat most often in runners.

1. Plantar Fasciitis

This one’s a classic. Pain in the heel—especially first thing in the morning. It’s usually caused by tight calves, overuse, or poor footwear. The good news? With the right treatment, we can get you back to pain-free running.

At our clinic, we use things like shockwave therapy, orthotics, and tailored rehab plans to calm it down and stop it from coming back.

2. Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome)

A dull ache down the inside of your shin? Yep, that’s probably shin splints. We often see this when runners increase their training too quickly or run in unsupportive shoes.

We’ll look at your gait, muscle strength, and technique to get to the bottom of it—and build a plan to fix it.

3. Stress Fractures

These tiny cracks in the bones of the foot are often caused by overtraining and not enough recovery. The pain tends to build up over time and worsens during a run.

Spotting this early is key. We’ll guide you on the safest way to rest and recover—and how to prevent it happening again.

4. Achilles Tendon Pain

Pain at the back of the heel? It might be the Achilles tendon. This injury creeps up when your training changes, especially if there’s lots of uphill running or speed work.

We use hands-on treatment, exercises, and even shockwave therapy if needed. The goal? Stronger tendons and less pain.

5. Morton’s Neuroma

This one feels like a pebble in your shoe or a burning pain in the ball of your foot. It’s caused by irritated nerves between the toes, often from tight shoes or high-impact running.

Treatment might include footwear advice, orthotics, or even ultrasound-guided therapy.

We Don’t Just Treat the Pain. We Fix the Problem.

At The Springfield Clinic, we’re not about quick fixes. We take time to listen, assess, and find out what’s really going on with your body. Shaun, our clinic owner, has worked in elite-level sports, so he knows what it takes to keep athletes—of all levels—moving.

We use high-tech tools like pressure plates and 3D gait analysis, plus personalised rehab and strength plans, to give you the best shot at long-term recovery.

You Don’t Have to Stop Running Forever

Foot pain can be scary—especially if running is your outlet, your hobby, or your stress relief. But here’s the thing: most of these injuries are treatable. You don’t need to suffer or “just live with it.”

Whether you’re a weekend 5k-er or training for your tenth marathon, we’ve got your back (and your feet).
